Quality of Life
A better community for all
On my watch, the city added lights to the tennis courts, built bocce ball courts, improved the First Street Peninsula, restored the Commanding Officer's Quarters, created the Arts and Culture and Sustainability Commissions, did an historic property survey, maintained our park system, added a bicycle/pedestrian connection to the Benicia Bridge, moved toward full compliance with our General Plan, passed campaign finance reform, purchased an additional annual water supply of 2,000 acre feet, completed major water and wastewater infrastructure projects to assure that we have safe, clean drinking water, and properly treated waste.
I was instrumental in negotiating a state of the art garbage franchise agreement which brought weekly recycling and additional services to Benicia in addition to more money to the general fund. I support a good relationship with Valero with the goal of strict compliance with air quality standards and I supported our climate action plan. I support finding a way to keep our State Parks open. Finally, we fulfilled our promise to the scouts and provided them a new permanent home at the recently opened Mills Community Center. If you haven't visited the Community Center yet, take the time. You will be impressed.
